Without doubt, the most satisfying thriller since Smiley's People...
Troy Kennedy Martin has written a highly-politicised serial about nuclear hypocrisy and the producer Michael Wearing has induced the likes of Michael Meacher MP to pop up here and there to give it an even clearer credential.
It's quite brave of the BBC to allow all this, and the director Martin Campbell is making the most of the opportunity...
Campbell has shot the piece at the most curious angles, though what sometimes appears to be the bottom of an unwashed pint pot. That and the script provide an opaque quality which you penetrate only to find that the characters lurking beneath are even more opaque.
How it will all end I've no idea, but I can't wait to find out.
