This dark, complex eco-thriller was so clearly a masterpiece that it was repeated on BBC1 soon after it ended on BBC2.

Bob Peck's grief-stricken provincial police detective, trying to solve his daughter's murder, stumbles on a vast international nuclear conspiracy, which brings him into contact with both the British and US secret services.

Edge of Darkness mixed personal tragedy with global threat, comedy with menace, action sequences with politics, realism with myth and fantasy, resulting in a gripping, innovative six-part drama which fully deserves its cult status and many awards.
