Site updates and news:

28th February 2007:

Many thanks to "Jenna" who sent us a photo that appears to be from another scene deleted from the film. You can check it out in THE CUTTING ROOM FLOOR section on the SCENE 70 page! By the way, the PROOF SHEETS section will be updated soon, we promise! The DVD section will also be updated, but in the meantime head over to the forum to hear about the US DVD issue.

5th January 2006:

Yes I know, over a whole year between updates. Apart from laziness there have also been server problems but we're hoping things are back online now. Anyway, we've added a new photo section called PROOF SHEETS and we'll try and update this at least once a month! Enjoy!

18th October 2004:

OK we've been really slack on this site in ignoring the 15th Anniversary of the film. Our humble apologies. Thankfully that wonderful Michelle Pfeiffer website at www.pfeiffertheface.com has thrown it's own party and here's the invite:

October 13, 2004
Finally the great day arrived!! Today is the 15th Anniversary of The Fabulous Baker Boys release in 1989!! During all this month PfeifferTheFace.com has wanted honored this film with several updates about the film. It deserved it! We must remember Baker Boys has became one of the most important movies on Michelle's careeer. I'm sure you will remember her on the piano and her red dress singing Making' Whoppie forever. Well, now it arrives the great update of the month, even the greatest update since the site was opened two years ago!! You already can download the 794 Dvd Captures of the film!! I'm sure you will have a hard-working saving them for your personal collection... almost like me when I was capturing them!! I hope you like them!!!

So drop in and say hello - it's an amazing site and well worth spending several hours at!

10th September 2003:

Those of you unable to track down a rare copy of the original BAKER BOYS photo album (some of the pictures are available to view in the photos section of this site and also at www.jeffbriges.com) will be happy to learn that a collection of Jeff's photos will be available around October.

23rd August 2003:

Nothing new to add to the site as such but thanks to Jim44 for forwarding a small bit of news that may be of interest:

Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios Inc., the film and entertainment giant that has a 4,100-title movie catalog, including "The Fabulous Baker Boys" and scores of famed pictures, is seeking to shop its titles to theatrical producers in the hope that hits from the silver screen might turn into stage gold.

In January 2002, MGM announced its new initiative, MGM On Stage, as part of the creation of the new division, MGM Entertainment Business Group, to be headed by longtime MGM executive Darcie Denkert. She will "focus exclusively on developing initiatives across divisional lines to further leverage and promote MGM's massive film and television library," according to the announcement. The news is likely prompting producers and musical theatre writers around the world to rush to get a list of MGM properties that might become the next Producers.

MGM is not seeking to become a producer or to finance the shows, meaning the company's financial risk is low, but will "capitalize on licensing and development opportunities for MGM properties as stage productions."

The current MGM catalog includes post 1948 films from United Artists, Orion, Goldwyn and Polygram and post-1985 films made under the MGM banner.

A spokesperson for MGM told Playbill On-Line in 2002 the company is already in discussions with interested parties on, amongst other titles, a musical version of "The Fabulous Baker Boys".

15th June 2003:

Third OSCAR ADVERTISEMENT added to the PRINT ADVERTISING section.

Five images from what seems to be some sort of press conference have been added to GALLERY 07. Most of these come from an excellent site called BOND'S MICHELE PFEIFFER WEB PAGE. Thanks Bondy.

Also from Bond's site, a few other images have been added to the IMAGE GALLERIES pages.

More images from Bond. Some discussion about the first photo below is on the first CUTTING ROOM FLOOR page. The second photo seems to be another shot from the deleted SCENE 29.

Another interesting photo that is discussed in CINEMATOGRAPHY section (scene 128):

25th April 2003:

OK, it's been a long time between updates I know, but unless everybody out there sends us some new stuff, there's not much in our archives we haven't already put online.

Have added a picture of Michelle's "Makin' Whoopie" shoes (on display at Planet Hollywood Atlantic City) to the Lisa Jensen interview.

Great new film review by George Pimentel. Thanks George.

Two new sections, MUSICAL CUES and SOUNDTRACK ANALYSIS added to the SOUNDTRACK pages. These are from a terrific site called THE DAVE GRUSIN ARCHIVE. Well worth a look.

16th November 2002:

Two great new fan REVIEWS by Gerad Formby and Andrea Widegreen. A big thanks to them; keep 'em coming people.

We were just as surprised as anybody to find that the film was even released in Turkey! Check out the TURKISH MOVIE POSTER now added to the growing number of posters from around the world on the PROMOTIONAL MEMORABILIA PAGE.

For those of you trying to piece together a complete US PRESS KIT there's bad news; the discovery of another 10 photos. Full details here with cropped versions of all the photos (with the white borders and captions trimmed off) under IMAGE GALLERIES.

4th May 2002:

A new image from a scene cut from the final print of the film has been added to the SCENE 29 page of THE CUTTING ROOM FLOOR.

Full details (including an image gallery) of a previously undocumented SECOND UK PRESS KIT have been added to the PRESS KITS section. Cropped versions of all the photos here also available in the IMAGE GALLERIES.

Added review of the new REGION 4 DVD RELEASE to the DVD SECTION.

13th February 2002:

A gallery of ten SPANISH LOBBY CARDS added to the LOBBY CARDS section.

Two Italian theatre posters added to PROMOTIONAL MEMORABILIA.

4th NOVEMBER 2001:

Ten gorgeous new images added to the US PRESS KIT section. These images were taken directly from the slides and make great wallpaper for your computer (feel free to email if you want any of the images reduced in size). Includes several color photos previously only available online in black and white.

Thanks to everbody who emailed or left messages to say how much they enjoyed having the site back up again. It's great to get feedback.

13th AUGUST 2001:

The site is finally back up! Thanks to everybody for their encouragement and sorry it took so long.

There's no guarantee the same thing won't happen again so I strongly suggest you join the mailing list (at the top of the page) if you want to make sure you're notified of any changes.

Everything bar the mp3 files are back up again (still looking for server to store these so suggestions are most welcome). There's probably still a few kinks and errors on the pages and notification of any of these would be appreciated too.

There's even some new stuff; the REVIEWS, ARTICLES, INTERVIEWS and QUIZ sections have all been updated (far too many changes to list individually, sorry). The CINEMATOGRAPHY feature has also been finished.

Enjoy!

APRIL 2001:

What happened to the old site? In late April the original BAKER BOYS site at www.angelfire.com was shut down without warning by the host server Angelfire/Lycos. When queried, they gave the following explanation:

"In our ongoing effort to stabilize and optimize our web hosting services, the Lycos Network has implemented a number of methods to flag potential abuse suspects. During this process, your web site was flagged and removed. Unfortunately, some files from user accounts were deleted permanently. This was clearly a mistake on our part, and we sincerely apologize."

What does that mean? Quite what this means seems unclear and attempts to gain further clarification were completely ignored, as were queries as to whether the site could be posted on Angelfire again. A request to at least have access to the old address to put up a redirection page to a new site address was declined.

So what was lost when the site was deleted? If the site had not been backed up by the webmasters it would have been lost for good. Luckily, it had been saved and virtually nothing was lost.
